For this project I created a soundscape that was meant to represent space. I wanted to create a soundscape that made you feel like you were traveling through space and time. I was very inspired by movies like Interstellar and 2001: A Space Odyssey and wanted to create almost a soundtrack that could be played behind these movies. This was the first thing that I thought of when brainstorming and I didn’t stray away from it. After critiques everyone seemed to get my overall idea and most people said that they felt like they were on a spaceship or floating through space. I used a lot of eerie sounds to create a sense of anxiety that you might have when traveling through space. I also used the composition of my sounds to create moments of chaos and moments of calm. I did this to simulate the violence of a spaceship in times of takeoff and landing and the moments of calm while you are just floating through space. In this sense I think it was very successful but I think there were moments where I could have done more. I wish I had left some of the sounds unaffected so that it felt closer to the reality we all know. At times it felt very alien and that was not what I wanted. Next time I would have thought more about the “scene” I wanted to set rather than focusing on a feeling that I wanted the listener to have.
